Little Hollow' is the literal meaning of my daughters name, Logan (3) Logan loves the vibraphone. I do not mean that she loves the vibraphone the way most kids love most instruments, I mean she REALLY loves the vibraphone. If it was up to her, she would forgo everything else and play it all day! A few prior to being commissioned to write this piece, I noticed that she had started playing receptive lies and would sometimes find something she liked and stay on it forever. This piece is built on a few of her favorite little licks. The ones that she will constantly attempt to play while I am trying to work. The metal voices (and xylophone) represent the playful yet very serious nature of Logan when she plays the vibraphone while the contrasting marimba voices are the support of me and my wife supporting her. I could not write a piece that was full of family symbolism without the groove, played on a drum set and representative of my 12 year old daughter Emily who is honestly too cool for school (but we make her go anyways.
